MICROSHIFT GROUPS: 2025 GENERAL ELECTION

Sign up below (scroll down) for a Microshift Group of precincts on Election Day for the 2025 November 4 Election. If a link is not active, that Microshift Group already has a volunteer.

INSTRUCTIONS:

What is a Microshift Group? Microshift Groups combine four, five or six precincts, for a single “roving” Poll Watcher to visit, observe and report key data. Each precinct visit should last 20-30 minutes each – a “microshift.” Microshift Poll Watchers use a short print report form to record a “snapshot” of precinct data for each precinct visit, and then copy the information from each of the precincts into an online version of the form.

Here’s an overview of Microshift Groups in a short PowerPoint presentation

Why do we have Microshifts? We do not have enough Poll Watchers to staff even half of our 265 precincts on Election Day, because many Republicans work as Election Officers, Greeters and to help get out the vote. The Microshift approach provides information about operations in as many precincts as possible, given the limited number of available volunteers.

Set Your Own Schedule: You can visit the precincts in your Microshift Group any time starting at 10:00 AM and ending by 6:00 PM. You set your schedule and your route. You can visit the precincts in any order. If you cannot get to all the locations in your Group, that’s ok. We are thankful for any information that you can provide!

Shifts and Travel Time Estimates: Shifts at each precinct in a Microshift Group should average 20-30 minutes inside the polling place. You can choose to stay longer, or to return again later to a polling place in your group. Precincts are grouped in a geographic cluster to minimize travel time, averaging 5-10 minutes between locations. The total time required to poll watch for all precincts in your Microshift Group should be about four hours, the time required for a traditional Election Day Poll Watcher shift.

Review: If you need to review the Poll Watcher Training or download training slides, videos, report forms, etc., go to the Fairfax Poll Watcher Resources page.

SIGN UP:

  • Districts: Each Group identifies the Magisterial Districts of the precincts in that Group (Braddock, Dranesville, Franconia, Hunter Mill, Mason, Mt. Vernon, Providence, Springfield, or Sully), to help you find a Group in your neighborhood.
  • Co-located Polling Places: A polling place location may be listed twice in a Group because two separate polling places are in that location. The Signup forms show these co-located polling places in green.
  • Contact Info: If you have any difficulty signing up for a shift, call/text us at 703-397-8129 or email pollwatchers@fairfaxgop.org.
