As you’ve probably heard, Governor Youngkin set September 9, 2025 as the date for the Special Election to fill the seat of former Congressman Gerry Connolly.
The 11th Congressional District Republican Committee has scheduled a Canvass (firehouse primary) to choose the nominee, who will challenge the Democrat nominee for the seat in the Special Election.
The canvass voting process is simple. Eligible voters will come to the Canvass, check in, vote, and leave. It will be very similar to a Primary, except that the 11th District GOP Committee will be conducting the voting process.

CANVASS DETAILS
When? Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Where? Fairfax High School, 3501 Lion Run, Fairfax, VA 22030.
Note #1: There is no filing fee to vote in the Canvass. Note #2: There is no Early Voting.
Pre-Registration
We encourage participants to pre-register for the Canvass. This will allow the Credentials Committee to complete the vetting process prior to June 28 and speed your voting process. Pre-registration is not required, however, and prospective voters will be able to register on site.
The deadline for pre-registration is 11:59pm on June 25, 2025.
Religious Exemption
Anyone who cannot vote during the Saturday, June 28 Canvass hours for religious reasons will be able to vote on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Fairfax County Republican Headquarters, 4246 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. Details regarding the request for a religious accommodation must be provided.

Sunday, June 22nd: 3:00 – 5:00 PM – The 11th Congressional District Committee & the Fairfax GOP will be co-hosting a Candidate Forum at the McLean Community Center with guest moderator WMAL’s Vince Coglianese. 5. Week of June 23rd: We are planning another Candidate Forum with a special guest moderator, but are waiting on confirmation from the venue. We’ll post details at 11cdgop.org and the fairfaxgop.org calendar, as soon as the date and time are finalized.
6. Saturday, June 28th: 9 AM – 4 PM – 11th District Canvass, Fairfax High School, 3501 Lion Run, Fairfax.
Candidates will speak briefly at the Canvass at 8:45 AM; 11:00 AM; 1:00 PM; and 3:00 PM and will be available to chat with voters in between those times, before they cast their votes.
