On April 24, the Fairfax County Republican Committee held its first membership meeting with chairman Tim Hannigan at the Green Acres Center.  Dozens of new members joined and the room was packed. 

As reported by the news site conservativevirginia.com, New Chairman Creates New Positive Energy In Fairfax, the meeting was a successful launch for the 2018 campaign year:

“Around 300 attendees filled the room to hear Hannigan offer his plan for re-organization. Among his new structure is replacing full-time paid staff with a large team of volunteer vice-chairs to free up the allocation of funds to better help Republican nominees. In a county with a population as large as Fairfax’s the pool to draw from is large enough to find plenty of talented volunteers…”

FCRC Chairman Tim Hannigan

The new Chairman Tim Hannigan announced plans to restructure, reunify and revitalize the Fairfax Republican party. The FCRC will provide voters with more information on GOP positions on local and state issues, expand outreach to encourage Republican voters, and start early recruitment of potential candidates. A plan of reorganization was submitted for approval at a future meeting.

Nominations

New chairmen and officers were nominated and voted on by the members:

  • County First Vice Chairman: Matt Truong
  • County Vice Chairman of Administration: Anne Erickson
  • County Vice Chairman for Community Engagement: John Guevara
  • Secretary: Tom Curtin
  • Treasurer: Gary Aiken

The members also approved the nominees for Magisterial District Chairs:

  • Braddock District: Gerald Geddes
  • Dranesville District: Tom Cranmer
  • Hunter Mill District: Amanda Morris
  • Lee District: Adrian Mungiu
  • Mason District: Jim Trollinger
  • Mount Vernon District: Valerie Wohlleben
  • Providence District: Paul Bolon
  • Springfield District: Craig Duehring
  • Sully District: Gerarda Culipher

Speaker: Elizabeth Schultz

Elizabeth Schultz, Springfield District Representative to the Fairfax County Public School Board, spoke on the problems created for students and families by several current School Board policies.

As Conservativevirginia.com reported, “It’s a new day for Republicans in Virginia’s most populous county. With new leadership the Fairfax County Republican Committee has the potential to start winning again. Onward to Election Day!”
