The House held a floor debate yesterday amid a controversial bill to fund Ukraine’s war effort with an additional $61 billion from the United States. The passage of the bill was considered a key test of Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R) ability to retain control of the House leadership.
During the debate, our 11th District Rep. Gerry Connolly (D) exclaimed, “Some say, well, we have to deal with our border first. The Ukrainian-Russian border is OUR border!” The tweet went viral on social media. Despite his concerns about Ukraine’s security, Connolly voted against a bill to fund our own United States southern border the same day!

Connolly rose to political power on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, where he ushered in a series of tax hikes that continues to plague residents with the current Democrat majority. In 2022, he followed Joe Biden’s example by avoiding all public candidate debates, but that will be tough for him to do this year because he is now facing a Democrat primary challenge from Ahsan Nasar.
In Virginia, voters do not register with a political party. Primaries are “open”, which mean voters can cast a ballot in either party’s primary, but not both. We need every Republican to show up for the June 18th primary to vote for our nominee for US Senate and get ready for the General Elections on November 5th! Support Republican Mike Van Meter’s effort to oust Democrat Gerry Connolly in the 11th District!
