Nhan Huynh: Immigrant, Veteran for House of Delegates

Nhan Huynh — a first-generation immigrant and U.S. Army veteran — is running for House of Delegates in Virginia’s 9th District, which includes Chantilly and other portions of Fairfax County. “As refugees, my family came to the U.S with nothing but the clothes on our back,” Huynh recalls. “My parents devoted their twilight years to overcoming adversity in America, aiming to give me a better life.”

Thanks in no small part to his parents’ sacrifices, Huynh went on to achieve the American Dream. A graduate of Fairfax County’s Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, Huynh joined the Army following 9/11, feeling a need to “give back” to the country that had given his family so much.

His military career cut short by an injury sustained during training, Huynh returned home to Fairfax County, where he cared for his aging parents and pursued a career in technology. Since then, Huynh has done IT consulting work for a number of federal agencies, including the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

A single father with primary custody of his three children, Huynh is no stranger to challenges. “I understand the struggles of being poor and alone, needing help, both as a young child under communist rule and as a single parent unable to work during the COVID era,” he says. “I know what it means to need help and to feel powerless. I want my voice, other parents’ voices, and other Northern Virginians to be heard in Richmond.”

As someone who fled oppression and overcame adversity to ultimately find success in America, Huynh is troubled by what he sees in our nation today — particularly the rise of socialism, the erosion of traditional values, and various other threats to our quality of life. Huynh’s website, HuynhForVirginia.com, lists the candidate’s top three priorities if elected to serve in Richmond:

  • Family Values: “As your Delegate, I will honor parents’ rights in their children’s education and upbringing.”
  • Environmental Conservation: “I am deeply concerned about the construction of data centers next to our neighborhoods.”
  • Public Safety: “I am committed to solving the rising crime rate in Fairfax County and stopping the influx of Fentanyl.”

“Most of all, I want to restore America’s freedoms, opportunities, and the American Dream that I knew existed,” Huynh says. “I want to work for you in the Virginia House of Delegates to make Virginia better for ALL.”
