Joseph Francis Galdo, Jr. (known as “Joe” to his friends) died peacefully in his Fairfax County home on Constitution Day, September 17, 2023, after praying the rosary with Maryanne, his wife of 54 years. Joe was 77 years old.
With a PhD in physics, Joe worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as well as the Department of Energy. In 2019, he was the Fairfax GOP’s nominee for Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Fairfax GOP Chairman Steve Knotts lauded Joe’s memory in a statement issued tonight. “Joe truly loved Fairfax County and its people,” Knotts said. “We in the Fairfax GOP are immensely grateful for Joe’s lifetime of service to others, and our hearts are with his many friends and loved ones.”
Above all, Joe was a devoted family man. Together with his wife Maryanne, he raised five kids and eventually had 12 grandkids. As Maria Keffler wrote back in 2019: “All of their children are at the center of Joe’s world. His pride in them beams from his face whenever he discusses them. With teachers, missionaries, social workers, and musicians among his children and in-law children, it’s clear that Joe’s values of service and good-heartedness have born out in the next generation of the Galdo family.”
On Tuesday, September 26, at 10:30 AM, a memorial service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (5121 Woodland Way, Annandale, VA 22003). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit Church, where Joe actively volunteered to serve those in need.
