A special session of the General Assembly will meet on April 17th to review Governor Youngkin’s actions on legislation. As of today, 1046 bills have been sent to him, and he has acted on 632 by signing 521 pieces of legislation; amending 20; and vetoing 91. He holds the record for having vetoed more bills in a single session than any Governor in the history of the Commonwealth. Click the following link for more information: Legislative Update
Last week, Governor Youngkin signed bipartisan legislation to combat human trafficking. Check HERE for more information. Another bill addressed the production and distribution of Fentanyl. More details are HERE.
There are still many bills to be considered in the next 9 days, but the most significant issue remains the budget. While the Governor has promised that Virginia families will not pay more in taxes, the budget proposed by Democrats includes more than $2 Billion in additional tax revenue. At some point, both parties will be forced to come back to the table. Let’s hope the financial well-being of struggling Virginia families will guide the negotiations.
