Raised in a military family, Cassandra Aucoin lived in Northern Virginia as a teenager and went on to graduate from Virginia Tech. Now a mother of two, Aucoin is one of three Fairfax GOP-endorsed candidates for at-large seats on the county school board.

“Fairfax County is at the crisis point with its public education and we need change to make it better and stronger. I want to use my leadership experiences to help restore excellence to our once-great school system,” Aucoin says. “I am not running to advance the agenda of any political party but as someone who is committed to serving the best interests of students, parents, teachers, and taxpayers.”

At her website, CassandraAucoin.com, the candidate outlines her agenda to get Fairfax County Public Schools back on track:

  • ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
    • “Promoting high education standards and high expectations in a safe environment”
    • “Returning to curricula basics across K-12”
    • “Recruiting and retaining highly effective teachers and keeping politics out of the classroom”
  • PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT
    • “Empowering parents to be involved in every aspect of their children’s education”
    • “Encouraging parent-teacher partnership”
    • “Protecting the rights of parents to be heard”
  • ACCOUNTABILITY
    • “Focusing our spending on students’ education and safety”
    • “Eliminating wasteful spending”
    • “Being good stewards of taxpayers’ money”

With a clear vision of reform, Aucoin vows to hit the ground running: “From the first day, I will put my extensive leadership experience to work to restore institutional trust and confidence in our Fairfax County School System as one of academic excellence, that affirms parental rights in their children’s education, and is accountable for student success and the billions of dollars entrusted by the taxpayer to the administration.”
