H.R. 1 represents an unconscionable power grab by the federal government and interferes with the ability of states and their citizens to determine qualifications for voters, to ensure the accuracy of voter registration rolls, to secure the integrity of elections, to participate in the political process, and to determine the district boundary lines for electing their representatives.
H.R. 1 violates both the 1st and 14th Amendments of the Constitution by deterring political free speech and restoring the voting rights of convicted felons.

Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat-run House have passed a horrendous bill known as H.R. 1. Its stated purpose is: “To expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes.”
In reality, it is a power-grab by the federal government to hinder states’ efforts to ensure Election Integrity. Heritage Action for America wrote a very good article, which you can read here. You can also read the text of the bill here.
H.R. 1 has been fast-tracked through the House and will soon be voted on by the Senate. I urge you to write and call Senators Warner and Kaine to make your voice heard!

Dear Senator:
I am a Virginia resident and your constituent. I am deeply troubled by H.R. 1 because I believe that a fair and transparent election process is absolutely vital to our democratic republic. H.R. 1 represents an unconscionable power grab by the federal government and interferes with the ability of states and their citizens to determine qualifications for voters, to ensure the accuracy of voter registration rolls, to secure the integrity of elections, to participate in the political process, and to determine the district boundary lines for electing their representatives. H.R. 1 violates both the 1st and 14th Amendments of the Constitution by deterring political free speech and restoring the voting rights of convicted felons. I strongly urge you to stand up for the principles of the Commonwealth of Virginia and this great nation, and vote NO on H.R. 1.
