Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin recently talked with Fox News host Martha MacCallum in Richmond. The interview followed Youngkin’s address to the Joint Meeting of the Senate Finance, House Appropriations, and House Finance Committee, in which the governor outlined his amendments to the Biennial Budget.

“We empowered parents to make decisions with whether their child wears a mask or not in school — so mask mandates went to the side,” Youngkin said in the nationally-televised interview. “Parents have been reestablished not just at the table, but at the head of the table.”

Youngkin told MacCullum that much work remains to be done “as we work through this learning loss.” Virginia had the nation’s worst learning loss in 4th grade reading and math, the governor noted. “That is not a prize I want Virginia kids to win,” Youngkin said.
