Inflation continues to hurt family budgets across Virginia. Governor Glenn Youngkin offered a commonsense plan to help by creating permanent car tax relief. This would have let families keep more of their own money—a proposal that even many Democratic voters supported. However, Democrat lawmakers rejected this reasonable approach and instead offered one-time payments that don’t solve the long-term problem, showing just how far they’ve drifted from their constituents’ real needs.
Fairfax County residents waste countless hours stuck in traffic while our roads crumble and Metro reliability continues to decline. These transportation failures cost our community millions in lost productivity and make it harder for businesses to grow. Yet instead of fixing these critical infrastructure problems that affect everyone’s daily life, the Democrat-controlled legislature is focused elsewhere.
Senate Bill 982 sponsor Scott Surovell, a Fairfax County resident himself, is betraying his own neighbors by pushing for a massive casino that nobody asked for. The only winners would be Surovell and his wealthy land developer donors. Meanwhile, Fairfax County families would be left dealing with increased crime, addiction, and even worse traffic congestion.
Governor Youngkin’s plan would have created $1.1 billion in permanent car tax relief for working families. Democrats instead chose to give one-time payments that don’t fix Virginia’s ongoing car tax burden. This shameless move proves that Virginia Democrats would rather play political games than provide real relief to hardworking families struggling to make ends meet.
Changing Virginia’s Constitution on Abortion
Democrat lawmakers are pushing for an extreme constitutional amendment on abortion that goes far beyond what most Virginians—including many moderate Democrats—consider reasonable. This radical proposal would remove widely supported safeguards like parental notification requirements and could force taxpayers to fund abortions, positions that even many pro-choice voters oppose.
Breaking with longstanding bipartisan consensus, Democrat lawmakers now want to automatically restore voting rights to felons immediately upon release, with no requirements to demonstrate rehabilitation or make restitution to victims. This extreme position abandons the common-sense approach that voting rights should be earned back through proven good behavior—a principle that moderate Democrats and Republicans have long agreed upon.
