CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WSET) — Fresh off of Thursday’s debate, former President Donald Trump came straight to Virginia, rallying his supporters in Chesapeake. It’s the first time he’s taken the stage with Governor Glenn Youngkin by his side.
The rally started at 1:30 p.m. and finished around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gov. Youngkin said Trump is the leader needed in the Oval Office.
“It is time to elect strength back in the White House. Let’s welcome the next president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Youngkin said.
Trump praised the governor for his work in the Commonwealth.
“He’s got common sense he’s great got policy. He’s got the policy that made America great. Now America is in decline because we have people going against us,” Trump said.
Folks at the rally voiced their support, holding signs with messages like “Never Surrender.” Trump said the debate on Thursday was a big win for his campaign.
“Watch a thing called the debate, that was a big one. As you saw on TV last night, we had a big victory against a man that is really looking to destroy our country,” Trump said.
Trump said he plans to tackle the border situation, high inflation, and of course, his catchphrase “make America great again.”
Trump also reiterated his support for the newly nominated Virginia Senate candidate Hung Cao.
“He’s running to fight for the hardworking people of Virginia, Hung Cao will vote to secure our border, stop Joe Biden’s inflation nightmare, and crack down on violent crime,” Trump said.
Both Cao and Trump echoed the idea of making the American people their top priority.
“We are going to fight for America, we are going to put Americans first like we always have, with your leadership sir,” Cao said.
Trump said the current leadership, under President Biden, is corrupt and if he takes office, he vows to undo what’s been done.
“Every disaster Joe Biden has created can be fixed, and can be fixed very very quickly. We will get it done fast. Every problem can be solved and wrong can be rectified,” Trump said.
