Youngkin Condemns Senate Democrats’ ‘Appalling Show of Partisanship’
Governor Glenn Youngkin today released the following statement on Democrats’ partisan rejection of qualified appointees:
“In an appalling show of partisanship, today Senate Democrats attacked the integrity of three highly qualified members of my administration.
“They voted to remove Suparna Dutta, shockingly claiming that a public school parent isn’t qualified to serve on the Board of Education.
Fairfax Dems Attack Suparna Dutta’s Historic Nomination
Fairfax Democrats are stealthily trying to torpedo the naming of Fairfax parent, STEM professional, and education activist Suparna Dutta to the Virginia Board of Education. The General Assembly must confirm her nomination, and the education activist Left is doing all it can to scuttle Dutta’s nomination.
Dutta, of course, is a villain for Fairfax County’s education activist Left. As a co-founder of the Coalition for TJ, she helped bring suit against Fairfax County Public Schools for their changes to the admissions policies at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology that over the course of a single year cut Asian student admissions by 19 percent.
Youngkin Names Reformers to State Education Boards
Governor Glenn Youngkin announced he has chosen additional key administration appointments. “I’m delighted to appoint this group of proven leaders in their respective fields to help ensure every student has a best-in-class education,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “I have tasked these innovators to bring their expertise as parents, industry leaders, educators, and policymakers to ensure our classrooms and our campuses prepare students for success in life. This includes providing equal access to educational opportunities regardless of background or zip code, protecting and promoting free speech, restoring the ability to have civil discourse, keeping tuition affordable, and ensuring that all Virginians have access to in-demand career pathways.”
Federal Judge Rules that TJ Discriminates Against Asian-American Students
Today, a federal judge ruled that Fairfax County school officials violated the law by changing admissions requirements at the nation’s top public school to deliberately reduce the number of Asian-American students enrolled.
Last March, a coalition of parents, students, alumni, and community members filed a lawsuit challenging admissions changes at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ).
Glenn Youngkin, America’s “Parent Champion”
It is my honor to name our first recipient of our Parent Champion Award. We have established this award to honor someone who has gone above and beyond in championing the rights of parents in their children’s lives.
There is a parable that says “For such a time as this…” a leader emerges, prepared for the moment by all of that person’s life experiences before.
New Coalition Launches: “Educators for Youngkin”
Political outsider, successful business leader, and Republican nominee for governor Glenn Youngkin announced today the launch of “Educators for Youngkin,” a coalition of teachers, parents, educators, and community members across Virginia that are committed to restoring excellence in education. Glenn Youngkin and the Educators for Youngkin Coalition will work to fix standards and underperformance in all Virginia schools.
Immigrant Mom to School Officials: “Treat Children as Humans, Not Identities”
On March 19th, as I sat in a hospital in India caring for my ailing mother, I got frantic texts from my child about offensive material being shown as part of 8th period mandatory social and emotional learning lessons. My child, who was very upset, sent me the slides and videos that the class was being subjected to. I was shocked to see videos of leaders of a very small but radical leftist 501(c)(4) group.
