Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger campaigned as a fresh face who would bring new ideas to Richmond. But as she fills out her cabinet, Virginians are seeing the same old faces who’ve been part of the problem for decades.
The latest example? Delegate Mark Sickles, who has represented parts of Fairfax County since 2003—that’s 22 years in the General Assembly. Spanberger just named him Secretary of Finance.
Sickles isn’t an outlier. He’s part of a pattern.
Spanberger has now tapped three Northern Virginia delegates for her cabinet:
This is what “change” looks like to Spanberger: the same career politicians from the same Northern Virginia Democrat machine, just shuffled into new jobs.
These are the same lawmakers who’ve voted for every tax increase, every unfunded mandate, and every radical policy that’s made Virginia less affordable and less safe. Now they’re being rewarded with powerful cabinet positions where they’ll have even more control over your life.
Meanwhile, each appointment triggers a special election—meaning more taxpayer money spent so Democrat insiders can play musical chairs.
Virginians didn’t vote for a “fresh start” only to get two more decades of the same people running things from different offices.
If this is Spanberger’s idea of change, common-sense Virginians should be very concerned about what’s coming next.
