Dear Fairfax GOP Family,
I’m not going to sugarcoat this: we have six days to do something that hasn’t been done in years — elect a Republican to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
On December 9th, Braddock District voters will decide whether to send Ken Balbuena to the Board of Supervisors or hand yet another seat to the same Democrat machine that just swept our statewide elections.
This is not a drill. This is our moment.
The Stakes Could Not Be Higher
Right now, Democrats control the Board of Supervisors 9-1. Chairman Jeff McKay and his rubber-stamp majority pass every tax increase, every radical policy, and every budget they want — and there’s almost no one to push back.
Pat Herrity fights alone. He’s outnumbered and outgunned every single vote.
Ken Balbuena would change that equation. Two conservative voices are harder to ignore than one. Two supervisors asking tough questions about spending. Two votes against the next tax hike. Two leaders standing up for Braddock District families who are struggling to afford their property taxes.
The Democrats know what’s at stake — and they’re terrified of losing their grip on power. That’s why Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, Lt. Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi, Attorney General-elect Jay Jones, Chairman Jeff McKay, and Congressman James Walkinshaw have all rushed to endorse Ken’s opponent, Rachna Sizemore Heizer.
Let’s be clear about who Rachna is: she’s not some fresh face with new ideas. She’s a five-year veteran of the Fairfax County School Board — the same school board that has waged war on parents, pushed radical ideology into classrooms, and never met a budget increase it didn’t love.
Rachna served as School Board Chair. She served as Budget Chair. She didn’t just go along with these policies — she led them.
Now the Democrat establishment wants to promote her to the Board of Supervisors, where she can help Jeff McKay squeeze even more money out of Braddock families who are already struggling to pay their property taxes.
The Democrats want to protect their supermajority. They don’t want anyone questioning their priorities.
We have six days to prove them wrong.
Who Is Ken Balbuena?
Ken isn’t a politician. He’s a neighbor.
He’s lived in Fairfax County for more than 20 years. He served as president of his civic association for four years. He’s been PTA president. He’s coached youth basketball. He’s served on the Future of Lake Accotink Task Force and chaired the FCPS Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee. He’s been appointed to county boards by Republicans and Democrats — because he shows up, does the work, and gets results.
Ken’s campaign slogan is “People Before Politics” — and he means it.
He’s heard from residents like Kathy, a federal worker and widow whose property taxes have skyrocketed from $2,000 to $9,000 since her husband passed away. She’s a single mom with one child in college and another about to graduate high school. She doesn’t know how much longer she can afford to stay in the county she’s called home for decades.
Ken is running for people like Kathy. He’s running for every Braddock family that feels squeezed by rising costs while the Board of Supervisors keeps spending like there’s no tomorrow.
Former Braddock Supervisor John Cook said it best: “I know of no one better in the Braddock District to fill that role than Ken Balbuena.”
What I’m Asking You To Do
I need every single one of you to step up in these final days.
If you live in Braddock District:
Your vote is everything. Early voting ends Saturday, December 6th at 5:00 PM. Election Day is Tuesday, December 9th — polls open 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
But I’m asking for more than your vote. I’m asking you to bring others.
Call your neighbors. Text your friends. Talk to your family members over the dinner table. Drive your elderly neighbor to the polls. Every single vote in this special election matters more than you can imagine. Turnout will be low — which means your network could make the difference.
Check your eligibility and find your polling place at the Fairfax County Elections portal.
If you live outside Braddock District:
You can’t vote in this race — but you can still help Ken win.
In the final days of any campaign, it all comes down to Get Out The Vote. Door-knockers. Phone bankers. Literature drops. Rides to the polls. All of that costs money.
Ken needs last-minute donations to fund these critical GOTV efforts. Even $25 or $50 can help put another volunteer on doors or get another voter to the polls.
Please visit KenForBraddock.com right now and make a contribution.
If you can give more, give more. If you can only give a little, give that. Every dollar matters in a race this close.
This Is How We Rebuild
I won’t pretend November 4th didn’t hurt. Watching Spanberger, Hashmi, and Jones win statewide was a gut punch for all of us who worked so hard.
But here’s what I know about this movement: we don’t quit.
We knocked on doors. We made phone calls. We stood up for conservative principles when it would have been easier to stay silent. And we’re not going anywhere.
The December 9th special election is our first chance to show that Fairfax County conservatives are still in the fight. A win for Ken Balbuena sends a message — to Richmond, to Jeff McKay, and to every Democrat who thinks they can take our votes for granted — that we are not defeated. We are just getting started.
Ken represents the future of our party in Fairfax County. A community leader. A family man. A common-sense conservative who knows how to work with people while standing firm on principle.
Let’s send him to the Board of Supervisors. Six days, Fairfax GOP. Vote. Volunteer. Donate. Spread the word. Let’s make history on December 9th.
With determination and gratitude,
Katie Gorka Chairwoman, Fairfax County Republican Committee
