We write to share the sad news that last Friday, March 28, Becky Stoeckel, a longtime Northern Virginia Republican activist and party leader, passed away. Becky served as a Republican leader for decades, including as 11th District Chairman in the 2000s and as Chairman of the City of Fairfax GOP Committee from 2014 through 2024.
If you were a Republican in Northern Virginia, you knew Becky. She was at the center of so much of what the party did in Fairfax City and Fairfax County over the last several decades. There just wasn’t anyone more dedicated to promoting the Republican Party in Northern Virginia than Becky.
Among our fondest memories of Becky is her proudly managing the annual Republican entry in the City of Fairfax Fourth of July parade, one of the largest and most well-known July 4th parades in Virginia. Many of us warmly recall inflating balloons and preparing signs and palm cards at her print shop in Old Town Fairfax.
She ensured the highest visibility for the GOP at the parade, and because of her hard work over many years, local and statewide candidates regularly made the parade a prime campaign stop. They knew the GOP would be organized and ready to support them, and Becky and her team made that happen. She also made certain that the GOP was well represented at the Fairfax Fall Festival, another staple of the Northern Virginia festival scene.Becky’s influence wasn’t confined to Northern Virginia.
As the 11th District Chairman from 2000 through 2012, she was an influential voice on the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee and Executive Committee. She was a powerful advocate for Northern Virginia Republicans and provided the SCC important perspective based on her deep understanding of the unique dynamics of Northern Virginia politics. She also brought a personal touch to her SCC work, where she was always willing to help newcomers to the committee get acclimated and integrated into the committee.
Beyond her official roles, we’ll also remember Becky’s willingness to help, provide guidance, and share her institutional knowledge with any Republican needing help. She was always there for the candidates, committees, and clubs, helping to organize and execute conventions, print campaign and committee materials, and arrange venues for Republican events.
No task was too small or too big for Becky to accept; she would help any way she could, in any way the Party needed. Republicans could always call on and count on Becky. If you assigned a task to Becky, you knew it would get done right and on time. She was as reliable a Republican volunteer as you’ll ever find.
And, of course, Becky’s and her husband Matt’s print shop, Executive Press, has served as the printers for so many Republican campaigns and committees over the years. They provided incredibly reliable, high quality service to our candidates, and their ability to advise the party on direct mail and printing matters was unsurpassed.
It was a pleasure to work with them, and when you worked with them, you really were working with them. They were teammates who wanted Republicans to succeed. We will truly miss Becky’s dedication, enthusiasm, and, most of all, her friendship.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Matt and the Stoeckel family.
