Virginia Republicans are rightly angry over last Tuesday’s election results. We didn’t just lose one race—we lost the Governor’s mansion, the Lieutenant Governor’s office, and the Attorney General’s race. That means four years of tax-and-spend policies that will wreak havoc on Virginia families already struggling with the cost of living. And perhaps most infuriating, voters chose an attorney general who called for the death of his political opponent over one who lowered fentanyl deaths and restored law and order to the Commonwealth.
When you’re angry, you want to lay blame somewhere. I’m seeing plenty of it—blame of the RPV, blame of the candidates, blame of consultants. But the easy targets aren’t why we lost.
We lost because we were massively outspent—in some races by 7 to 1. Democrat donors across the country, enraged by Trump’s victory, poured tens of millions into Virginia. We lost because the left still controls the cultural narrative and mainstream media. We lost because the Democrats cynically timed a government shutdown to maximize voter anger.
And yes, we lost because President Trump’s necessary work to cut government spending is painful for many federal workers now searching for jobs. These cuts are essential to our nation’s survival, but that doesn’t make them less difficult for affected families.
Here’s what hasn’t changed: the United States is the greatest country on earth. No other system creates more prosperity and opportunity for more people. We cannot roll over and let the socialists take over Virginia.
We have had more than a week now to process this loss. It’s time for us to go back to work.
We still have one more election ahead of us, and we can win it. Ken Balbuena is running against Rachna Sizemore Heizer for Braddock District Supervisor. Right now, Pat Herrity is alone on the Board of Supervisors representing all the Republicans in Fairfax County. It would be powerful if we could elect one more Republican supervisor. The election is December 9th, but early voting is already underway. Only Braddock residents can vote, but we can all help. We are going to be door knocking, texting, and calling for Ken, and your help would be invaluable. If you want to volunteer, contact us at FairfaxGOP.org/volunteer.
After December 9th, our job will be to hold the Spanberger administration accountable for every tax increase, every failed program, and every broken promise. When costs go up, when businesses leave, when their policies fail—we’ll be there documenting it, exposing it, and making sure Virginia voters know exactly who’s responsible. They own this now, and we’re going to make sure they can’t run from the results.
Since Tuesday, dozens of you have reached out wanting to join the fight. Here’s what we’re planning:
This isn’t about having all the answers today. It’s about determination and leadership. I’ve spent 20+ years in this fight, and I know what it takes to come back stronger.
Our next Fairfax GOP meeting is Tuesday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM at Woodson High School in Fairfax. If you’re ready to be part of the solution, show up. This is where we begin building our comeback.
We’re not done. We’re just getting started.
Katie Gorka
Chairwoman, Fairfax County Republican Committee
