Mark Vafiades, a longtime citizen activist with a diverse background in both government and business, is the GOP nominee for Virginia Senate in District 35, which includes Annandale, Kings Park, and Springfield. He will face incumbent Democrat David Marsden in the fall.
Mark’s campaign is focused on three real-world issues: the cost of living, education, and crime. While Governor Youngkin has made progress on these fronts, far-left Senate Democrats have blocked too many sensible ideas. “That’s why I’m running for State Senate and what I hope to change once I get to Richmond,” Mark says.
As a former reserve deputy sheriff, addressing the crime wave of these last few years is particularly important to Mark. “This has been caused in part by the anti-police rhetoric we’ve heard from a lot of politicians,” the candidate says. Another cause Mark identifies is the “so-called police reform” passed by state lawmakers in 2020.
