Former Lieutenant Governor John H. Hager, who later served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, died Sunday. He was 83 years old. In addition to his long record of public service in Virginia, Hager was assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services during the second Bush Administration.

“We join Virginians today in mourning the loss of a fellow Republican and a great man,” Fairfax GOP Chairman Steve Knotts said Monday. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, as well as our sincere thanks for John’s devoted service to our commonwealth and our nation.”
