Rosie Oakley | Fairfax GOP
It is with much sadness that I inform you of the passing of Mike Melillo, who lived in the Eagle View precinct of Braddock and has been a long-time member of the Fairfax GOP and a very active volunteer. In fact, he had signed up for an upcoming Poll Watcher training class.
Though in his 80’s, Mike worked every day at FreedomWorks in DC; was an avid doorknocker; and always answered the Fairfax GOP’s call for volunteers. My last email exchange with Mike was in early September, when I was recruiting help for Braddock Back to School Nights. He was a lovely man, a true patriot, and someone who went to work joyfully until the very last day of his life. We should all be so blessed! Please keep Mike and his family in your prayers.
Even if you didn’t know him, when you read this tribute, written by FreedomWorks Vice President John Tamny, you’ll see why Mike Melillo was such a special gentleman: https://www.freedomworks.org/remembering-the-late-great-mike-melillo.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church (13807 Poplar Tree Road, Chantilly, VA) on Wednesday, October 5th at 1:00 PM, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers and to honor Mike’s life, donations can be made in support of the FreedomWorks Mike Melillo Activist Award at https://action.freedomworks.org/mikemelillo.
Rosie Oakley is the Fairfax GOP’s Braddock District chairwoman.
