On January 13, House Democrats voted to impeach President Donald Trump a second time. Never mind that President Trump will have left office by the time U.S. Senators even consider the proposal to remove him from office. House Democrats voted to impeach him anyway. The Democrats’ stated rationale follows, according to their own, latest Article of Impeachment:

Shortly before the Joint Session commenced, President Trump, addressed a crowd at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. There, he reiterated false claims that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide.” He also willfully made statements that, in context, encouraged — and foreseeably resulted in — lawless action at the Capitol, such as: “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.” Thus incited by President Trump, members of the crowd he had addressed, in an attempt to, among other objectives, interfere with the Joint Session’s solemn constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential election, unlawfully breached and vandalized the Capitol, injured and killed law enforcement personnel, menaced Members of Congress, the Vice President, and Congressional personnel, and engaged in other violent, deadly, destructive and seditious acts.

Never mind that President Trump, in that very same address, called upon his supporters to march “peacefully and patriotically.” Later, as events unfolded, the President tweeted: “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!” (Note: The Fairfax GOP retweeted President Trump’s call to remain peaceful and to respect law enforcement. Twitter has since deleted the President’s tweet.)

Writing for PJ Media, author Matt Margolis observed that CNN might have further debunked the Democrats’ charge. CNN reported on the same day the House voted for impeachment: “Evidence uncovered so far, including weapons and tactics seen on surveillance video, suggests a level of planning that has led investigators to believe the attack on the US Capitol was not just a protest that spiraled out of control, a federal law enforcement official says.”

As Margolis noted: “CNN’s report contradicts everything the left has alleged about the violence at the Capitol and undermines the justification for impeaching Trump. The riot at the Capitol was either planned in advance, or inspired by President Trump’s speech. It simply cannot be both.”
