On Wednesday morning, 5/21, Congressman Gerry Connolly’s family announced his death related to esophageal cancer, an illness which he made public shortly after his reelection to represent the 11th District this past fall.

Gerry Connolly served as the Congressional representative for the 11th District, which now covers most of Fairfax County west of the beltway, since 2008.  Prior to his election to Congress, he served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for 14 years.  For 5 of those years he was the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.  Recently, Connolly had announced that he would not seek another term in 2026.

A vacancy in the House of Representatives is not filled by appointment from the Governor.   Instead, Governor Youngkin will soon issue a call for a special election.  If you are interested in running for the special election to represent the 11th District in Congress, or any other local office, please contact the Fairfax GOP here, https://fairfaxgop.org/become-a-candidate/

The Fairfax County Republican Committee extends its heartfelt condolences on the passing of Congressman Connolly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
