Over the recent weekend, 169 members of the Fairfax GOP traveled to Hampton, Virginia, to participate in the Republican Party of Virginia’s 2024 Quadrennial Convention. This impressive turnout marked the largest contingent from any County or City party in attendance, showcasing the growing momentum and dedication of the Fairfax GOP.
A Historic Gathering
The 2024 Quadrennial Convention brought together Republicans from across the state to discuss key issues, elect representatives, and set the stage for increasing Republican victories.
During the convention, Arlington’s Morton Blackwell was re-elected to a new four-year term as Virginia’s committeeman to the Republican National Committee, defeating Tim Anderson with a weighted vote count of 6,891 to 6,709. Blackwell, who has served as Virginia’s committeeman to the Republican National Committee since 1988, has a long history of conservative activism, including his role as the youngest delegate pledged to Barry Goldwater at the 1964 Republican National Convention, his service as a special assistant to President Reagan, and his founding of the Leadership Institute.
Patti Lyman was re-elected as Virginia’s committeewoman, defeating Jean Gannon with a weighted vote count of 6,891 to 6,538. In a commitment to party unity, both Anderson and Gannon graciously withdrew after the votes were tallied, allowing Blackwell and Lyman to be elected by acclamation. Rich Anderson was elected in an uncontested race to serve another four-year term as Chair of the Republican Party of Virginia.
Growing in Strength
“This convention was a testament to the strength and dedication of our members,” said Katie Gorka, chair of the Fairfax County GOP. Joining Governor Glen Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, and Attorney General Jason Miyares in addressing the convention, Katie also said, “I am so inspired by the effort of so many of our members to make the trek to Hampton Roads. The Fairfax GOP is growing in strength and commitment, and we are poised to accomplish great things!”
Looking Ahead
The Fairfax GOP is working hard to build a strong community of Republican activists who are dedicated to advancing our shared values and principles. The turnout at the 2024 Quadrennial Convention is just one example of our effort to make a difference in Northern Virginia and beyond.
We encourage all members and supporters to join the Fairfax GOP as we fight for a brighter future for our party and our community. Together, we can achieve great things!
