FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Voters in Fairfax County’s Braddock District will head to the polls on March 3 to fill a vacant seat on the Fairfax County School Board.

The special election follows the resignation of Rachna Sizemore Heizer after winning her election to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Only registered voters who live in the Braddock District are eligible to vote.

Two candidates will appear on the ballot.

Tom F. Dannan II won the Democratic Party’s endorsement after defeating fellow Democrat Alexa L. Krezel in a Jan. 10 firehouse primary.

Saundra T. Davis is running as an independent candidate in this race. Davis previously ran as a Republican in November for the Virginia House of Delegates to represent Fairfax’s District 15.

Voters have several options to cast a ballot before Election Day.

Early in-person voting runs from Jan. 16 through Feb. 28 at the Fairfax County Government Center, located at 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax.

Voting is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on select dates. The site will be closed on Feb. 16 for Presidents’ Day.

An additional early voting location will open at the Burke Centre Library, 5935 Freds Oak Road in Burke, from Feb. 21 through Feb. 28. Hours there run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The deadline to register to vote is Feb. 20. That is also the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail.
