FAIRFAX, Va. (7News) — Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) tells 7News Reporter Nick Minock that they are launching an investigation into claims that school staff arranged abortions for students and didn’t tell their parents.
This story has blown up on social media — a report that says school officials at Fairfax County’s Centerville High School arranged and bankrolled abortions for girls without so much as a phone to their parents back in 2021.
The report says one of the two girls involved was 17 years old.
On Wednesday, 7News reached out to FCPS about these claims.
FCPS said, “We learned yesterday of these concerning allegations from 2021. We are launching an immediate and comprehensive investigation as we take all concerns of student wellbeing very seriously.”
7News asked have FCPS staff members ever arranged abortions for students, and if did they do so in this case?
FCPS replied, “Not to [our] knowledge. We have launched an immediate investigation into these concerns as soon as we were made aware.”
7News also asked FCPS for their standard operating procedure for when a student inquires about an abortion with an FCPS employee.
Although FCPS’s policy says, “every effort shall be made to encourage and support students suspecting pregnancy to discuss their concerns with their parents or guardians,” it does not require, or even suggest, FCPS employees should inform the parents about those conversations.
Here is the policy FCPS sent to 7News, referred to as Regulation 2504.

FCPS told 7News that FCPS employees do not currently arrange abortion services for FCPS students who are minors.
7News asked FCPS do their employees inform students about abortion services and where to get these types of services?
FCPS replied, “Students are referred to the public health nurse for any health-related matters. The public health nurses are Fairfax County Health Department employees.”
