Fairfax Casino Bill Update

Share This Article:

A proposal for a casino in Tysons continues to move forward through the General Assembly despite significant opposition from local community groups and elected officials.

What’s at issue? As we have reported here since last fall, Senator Dave Marsden (D), whose district includes parts of Springfield, Annandale, Burke, Kings Park, Lincolnia and Lake Barcroft, has introduced a bill that would allow for a casino to be built in Tysons. If the bill passes through the legislature, it would ultimately go to a referendum vote for Fairfax County residents.

Because revenue from a casino would first go to the state before a percentage would be returned to the county, the issue has pitted some local Fairfax Democrats against their state-level colleagues.

The Patch has several recent updates:

Contact your Fairfax County District Supervisor, as well as your state Senator and Delegate, to express your opinion on the casino.

The local group, NoRestonCasino.org, originally formed to block a casino in Reston, continues to fight against a casino in Tysons.
