How to Become an Election Officer in Fairfax County

Thank you for your interest in serving as an Election Officer (EO) in Fairfax County!

As long as you are a registered voter in Virginia, you can apply to be an EO (which is a paid position) with the Fairfax County Office of Elections (FCOE).

Just follow these 5 EASY STEPS to Becoming an EO:

1) Go to this link to get started:  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/home-page

2) Once on the home page of the FCOE website, at the very bottom of the page on the left side, you will see a link “Working at the Polls” and click on that link:  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/officers/new-officers

Note:  There’s lots of good information on this page!

3) On the New Officers page, scroll down until you see: “How Do I Apply to Be an Election Officer?” and click on that link:  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/election-officers/apply

*The QR Code below directs you to this link as well.

4) While completing the on-line application form accessed from the above link, you will be asked to select the political party (Republican, Democrat, or Independent) you wish to represent. If you choose to represent the Republican Party, I will be notified by the FCOE in order to ‘endorse’ your request to represent the Fairfax GOP.

5) After completing the on-line form, someone from the FCOE will respond to you with further instructions regarding setting up an in-person appointment at the FCOE at which you will complete 3 forms [the 2023-2024 Oath, an I-9, and a Direct Deposit Form).  The FCOE is located at:  12000 Government Center Parkway – Suite 323Fairfax, VA 22035

Note: This in-person appointment will only take about 10 minutes.

Once these 3 forms are completed and upon endorsement by the party, you will be able to serve as an Election Officer as long as you participate in the various FREE trainings provided by the FCOE prior to each election.

Please note that the Fairfax GOP also needs Poll Watchers (PWs), and you can serve as both a PW and an EO; you can be a PW during Early Voting (representing the Fairfax GOP) and then serve as an EO on Election Day (working for the FCOE).

Please feel free reach out with any questions or concerns.
