Development Issues Are Heating Up Across Fairfax County

Casino Updates: We have been calling attention to plans for a casino in Fairfax County, and now reports are out that a location in Tysons has been identified. Reston residents were vocal early in their opposition (Norestoncasino.org), and were followed by the Vienna Town Council, which was unanimous in rejecting the idea. Most recently, the McLean Citizens Association released a statement expressing their negative views as well, but none of this has deterred Senator Dave Marsden (D-Fairfax) from filing a bill to allow a referendum vote on a casino.

FFX NOW reported on 1/18 that a former car dealership on Rte. 7 in Tysons is a possible location, https://www.ffxnow.com/2024/01/18/new-fairfax-county-casino-push-targets-abandoned-tysons-auto-dealership/

Centreville: The western part of the county is also reviewing ideas for redevelopment. FFX NOW outlined the county government’s community survey and plans to examine the comprehensive plan. Housing Supply & Zoning: The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is concerned about the lack of available and affordable housing across Fairfax County, and is considering a variety of approaches to address the concerns.
