Cynthia Walsh, devoted mom and tireless advocate for students on the autism spectrum, is running for school board in Fairfax County’s Sully Magisterial District. For two decades, Walsh has volunteered with The Autism Community in Action (TACA) to support families of kids on the spectrum.
Previously a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer, transparency remains one of Walsh’s core values. If elected to serve on the Fairfax County Board of Education, she will fight to ensure that parents and taxpayers are never left in the dark.
In addition to four-year college readiness, Walsh strongly believes the school board should allocate more time and resources to vocational and technical education. “Both are solid career paths,” Walsh says of four-year colleges and two-year trade schools after 12th grade.
Above all, Walsh intends to refocus county schools on student safety and success — not on divisive politics or trendy social issues. Stella Pekarsky, the Sully District’s incumbent school board member, is now running for higher office after just one term. Walsh charges that her opponent, Seema Dixit, is “Stella 2.0,” offering more of the same. “You can’t fix it if you vote for Dixit,” Walsh says on the campaign trail.
