At the Start of a Great New Year

By Katie Gorka

As 2025 gets underway, there is so much cause for joy and celebration. The national security disaster that has been our southern border is about to be addressed. Not only will we have a president in the Oval Office who is lucid, but we will have a president who loves this country and puts Americans first. We will have a team in Washington who is committed to cutting government spending and restoring the rule of law.

But sadly, here in Fairfax County, we must continue to endure the failed policies of the Democrats. Every day we hear new stories of the cost of their radical progressive, tax-and-spend DEI mindset. An illegal alien who raped a woman in Herndon and who now awaits trial in Fairfax had no fewer than 29 encounters with law enforcement.  How was this allowed to happen? In 2021, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (9 Democrats, 1 Republican) passed the so-called Trust Policy, which allowed illegal aliens not only to access taxpayer-funded public services but also prevented law enforcement or any other agency from reporting their presence to immigration authorities—even when they broke the law. Not only has this made Fairfax County more dangerous, it has also strained an already bloated budget.

The good news is that we can turn this around. In the immediate term, we have the opportunity to end the Democrats’ control of the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate with a special election on January 7th.  Tumay Harding is running in State Senate District 32, and Ram Venkatachalam is running in the House of Delegates 26th District. Both of these districts are in Loudoun County, which means we as Fairfax County residents cannot vote for them, but we can support their campaigns. We have already sent over 16,000 handwritten postcards to Loudoun County voters, and you can do more: You can support their campaigns with donations; you can volunteer to door knock or make phone calls, and you can encourage your Loudoun friends to make sure they vote in this important special election. Click on the links above to learn more about volunteer opportunities in these last 2 weeks before the January 7th special election.

For the longer term, we are turning our full energy to helping Republicans win the 2025 races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. We will also have 14 seats for the House of Delegates opening up in Fairfax County. A couple of candidates have already stepped up, but we need more! This is a great way to serve your community. You can see the map of delegate districts here. We will also need all Fairfax County conservatives to get involved to help those candidates win. Elections have consequences. Never has that been more obvious!

If we want to end the sanctuary policies, get DEI out of our schools and government offices, restore excellence to Fairfax County Public Schools, and reign in the tax-and-spend habits of the Democrats, we must all pitch in to win.

So let’s be filled with joy as we celebrate with our families and friends the start of a new year that holds such promise! Let’s be grateful for all our many blessings!  And let’s gird ourselves for the year ahead. As balanced and common-sense policies are implemented in Washington, join with us at the Fairfax GOP to do the same for Fairfax County!
