Area Catholic Schools Plan to Reopen Safely

Although Fairfax County Public Schools will remain “online only,” area Catholic schools plan to safely reopen this fall — with “in-person” classroom instruction as well as virtual options.

Dr. Joseph Vorbach is the schools chief for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, which includes Fairfax County. On Tuesday, Dr. Vorbach joined WMAL’s Mornings on the Mall radio program.

With no government bureaucracy or teachers union, Catholic schools have the flexibility to innovate and swiftly adapt to new circumstances. Last semester, Catholic schools rapidly and successfully transitioned to distance learning — in stark contrast to Fairfax County Public Schools.

“I just marvel at the creativity and the diligence of our principals working with their teams at the schools,” Dr. Vorbach said on Tuesday morning.
