Virginia holds elections every year. This year Virginians will elect:

  • President of the United States
  • US Senator, Virginia (1 of 2, 6-year term)
  • Congressional Representatives (by district, 2-year term)

Virginia will hold 2 separate primary elections in 2024. Voters will cast their ballots in the March 5th primary election for the Republican Presidential nominee, and again on June 18th, voters will chose Republican candidates for US Senate and Congress.

What’s the next election? Virginia holds a June 18th primary election to select candidates for Senate and Congress.

Early Voting for the primary will open on Friday, May 3rd and continues until Saturday, June 15th. Voters can vote at ANY early voting location! Hours vary by location – check hours HERE.

Deadline to register or update your registration – May 28th. Click HERE.

Satellite Early Voting Locations Open – Date TBD. Hours vary by location.

Election Day – Tuesday, June 18th Polls are open from 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Vote in person at your assigned precinct polling place. Voters may apply to register and vote with a provisional ballot at your precinct polling location. You can return an Absentee Ballot at precinct polling place drop boxes.

How do I register to vote?

To register, check or update your registration visit elections.virginia.gov. The deadline to register has passed, but Virginia now has “same day” registration that allows you to cast a provisional ballot. Click HERE for details.

How do I vote?

Vote by mail. Apply for an absentee ballot HERE. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is June 7th. Need help filling out your absentee ballot? Watch video instructions HERE.

Vote by drop box. Return your absentee ballot:

Vote early, in person, from Friday, May 3rd through Saturday, June 15th.

Vote on Election Day, in person, Tuesday, June 18th.

Who can vote absentee?

Any registered voter can cast an absentee ballot. There is no excuse or reason required to apply for an absentee ballot in Virginia.

If you still have an Absentee Ballot, please complete and return it TODAY! You can return it to the drop box at the Fairfax County Government Center, the Office of Elections or at a precinct polling location drop box on Election Day, June 18th by 7:00pm. You can also mail it back, but it MUST be postmarked by June 18th. Complete details are HERE. What’s on my ballot?

2024 is a federal cycle, so Virginians will be voting on March 5th for the presidential nominees for each party, then again on June 18th in the primaries for Senate and Congress. The General Election will be on Tuesday, November 5th.
