If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that elections have consequences. The leaders we choose—from local School Board members to U.S. Senators—make decisions that directly affect our families, our wallets, and our safety.
And right now, one-party Democrat rule is failing Fairfax County and Virginia.
If you’ve ever thought about stepping up and running for office, the time to start preparing is now—not next year, not six months before the election. The next opportunities are right around the corner, and the Fairfax GOP needs strong candidates to step forward.
2026: Federal Elections
Next November, three major federal races will be on the ballot for Fairfax County voters:
U.S. Senate – Senator Mark Warner’s seat is up, and Republicans are competing for the GOP nomination. State Senator Bryce Reeves, Northern Virginia’s Kim Farington, and veteran David Williams have all announced their candidacies. This is a statewide race that will require a top-tier candidate and significant resources to flip a seat Democrats have held since 2009.
U.S. House of Representatives:
2027: Local Elections
The following year, the focus shifts to local government—and this is where the real work begins.
Here’s something many people don’t realize: local races are harder, not easier. Just because these seats represent smaller districts doesn’t mean they require less preparation. In many ways, they require more.
Local candidates must build name recognition from scratch, knock on thousands of doors, raise money without the benefit of national attention, and compete against entrenched incumbents with deep community ties. Successful local campaigns typically require more than a year of groundwork—building relationships, learning the issues, and organizing volunteers.
If you’re serious about running in 2027, you should be getting organized now.
