MCLEAN, Va. (7News) — Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin made a special announcement Monday morning highlighting Virginia’s economic opportunities where he unveiled a new support resource package for federal workers.
The announcement at Capital One’s campus in McLean reaffirmed Youngkin’s commitment to keeping Virginia “open for business and competing to win across the nation,” according to his administration.
Youngkin rolled out Virginiahasjobs.com where people can access and apply for the more than 250,000 open jobs in Virginia. The website also allows people to sign up for email updates on upcoming job fairs, resources to help them in their job search, and how to apply for unemployment and other benefits.
“People who may have or expect or worry about job interruption — there are opportunities in Virginia, and we want to help you find them,” Youngkin said.

he governor’s “special announcement” comes amid a wave of uncertainty for federal employees. The Trump administration has issued thousands of layoffs nationwide, and Elon Musk has mandated that federal workers submit weekly productivity reports or risk resignation, with a deadline looming Monday night.
Youngkin said the state will offer resources to help federal employees transition into new roles if they “experience job dislocation.”
“Take advantage of the resources that will help you find your pathway to that career of your dreams… I actually have extraordinary empathy for the fact that there are many workers in Virginia today, from our federal workforce who are experiencing real concerns,” Youngkin added.
Virginia Democratic State Senator Scott Surovell said he wants Youngkin to fight for federal workers.
“I’m glad that the governor has finally acknowledged the destruction of the Virginia economy that Donald Trump and Elon Musk are causing through their recklessness and their job cuts,” said Surovell. “But Virginians didn’t vote for this. Trump lost their state by 250,000 votes. I think Virginians would much rather see our governor stand up and fight for their jobs instead of just taking a knee to Trump and Elon Musk every time they make an announcement.”
“I’ve had people reach out to me because they lost their job unexpectedly,” Surovell added. “They’re worried about how they’re going to pay their mortgage.”
Last week, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and County Chair Jeff McKay voted to request support from the governor for federal workers and contractors.
“We have to call on him to do something,” McKay said.
During last week’s board meeting, McKay claimed he had a conversation with the governor.
“I’m asking have you had a conversation with the governor?” Supervisor Pat Herrity asked McKay.
“I have. I have,” answered McKay.
“Governor, have you chatted with Fairfax County Chairman Jeff McKay about federal workforce matters?” 7News Reporter Nick Minock asked Youngkin on Monday.
“I have not,” answered Youngkin.
McKay has not yet responded to 7News’ question about when exactly he had a conversation with Youngkin.
7News also asked the governor his thoughts on McKay’s board matter that in part scolds him for his support for Trump Administration efforts.
“It begins with just a clear recognition that Americans voted for a more efficient federal government, and that’s exactly what President Trump and the administration are working to deliver,” Youngkin said. “The waste, fraud, and abuse is stunning and shocking, and everybody sees it.”
Youngkin mentioned the federal government has more than $36 trillion in debt.
