My mother still remembers exactly what she was doing when she heard the news that President Kennedy had been shot. Now I understand what a heart-stopping moment that was for her! I was driving down a dirt road last night when I heard that President Trump had been shot. I was filled with dread and panic and dismay, as I imagine many of you were. That image of President Trump going down behind the podium was terrible, and I have been saying prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving from the moment President Trump stood up and raised his fist, and subsequently as more news came through that he was indeed all right.
But this remains a very frightening and disturbing moment. Many have feared that something like this might happen. So what do we do now? We should follow President Trump’s words by demonstrating through action that “we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.” We can also deepen our resolve to support this man who has now taken a bullet for us (as if he hasn’t suffered enough already)! And we do all that we can to restore sanity to our country. The first and best place to do that is at the ballot box.
The good news is that we are ready.
Your Fairfax GOP, with our hundreds of grassroots volunteers, has been hard at work preparing for this election. We are working closely with the Trump Campaign, the RNC, the RPV, and our local unit chairs. We have developed a comprehensive Get Out the Vote plan, including ballot banking, and we have been working extra hard to ensure that every vote counts, and only legal votes count!
So for today, I encourage you to pray for President Trump and his family, for the family of the rally attendee who was killed, and for the two supporters who were critically wounded.
We will be sending news in the days and weeks ahead about how you can get involved and how you can help ensure that President Trump and our other Republican candidates are elected on November 5th. For now, let us be grateful that President Trump is alive, that he has demonstrated beyond a doubt the kind of leader he is even under the most intense circumstances, and that we still live in the greatest country in the world.
Sincerely,
Katie
