FCPS Wins In Court; Asks For $3.8 Billion Budget

FCPS garnered national news this past week when the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal by the parent group challenging the change to admissions standards at Fairfax County’s acclaimed magnet school, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology “TJHSST”. The 2019-2023 FCPS Board changed the admissions policies and standards by dropping previously required testing in favor of other criteria. A group of parents and students, the Coalition for TJ, was initially successful at the trial court, but FCPS won on appeal at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid submitted her budget request for FCPS. Despite falling enrollment numbers, her budget request asks for an increase of over $300 million to push the total annual schools budget over a whopping $3.8 BILLION.
