New Data: FCPS Is Failing Our Kids

A new report confirms that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is failing students in record numbers. “The trend of more failing marks is concerning across the board but is especially concerning for the groups that showed the biggest unpredicted increases in receiving multiple unsatisfactory marks, namely our English learner students and students with disabilities,” the school district’s internal study concludes.

FCPS middle schoolers with “F” grades in two or more classes increased 300% this year; for high schoolers it was a 50% increase. In both middle school and high school, more than 1 in 5 Hispanic students now have “F” grades in two or more classes. More than a fifth of students with disabilities have “F” grades in two or more classes as well.

The district’s trend of academic failure was truly “across the board,” with every student category earning “F” grades in two or more subjects at greatly higher rates this year:

  • Middle and high school: 83% increase
  • Male: 100% increase
  • Female: 100% increase
  • Asian: 100% increase
  • Black: 63% increase
  • Hispanic: 92% increase
  • White: 67% increase
  • Disabled: 111% increase
  • English learners: 106% increase
  • Economically disadvantaged: 83% increase

In a Fox News interview this week, FCPS parent Asra Nomani called out the district’s hypocrisy when it comes to “equity” in K-12 education. While the school board focused on “social justice,” the most vulnerable students were neglected.
