Virginia Democrats’ worst year ever continues. On Thursday, WAMU’s Ally Schweitzer reported that Supervisor Jeff McKay (D-Lee District) is under criminal investigation. “This comes three months after a political opponent filed an ethics complaint alleging McKay swapped a political favor for a real-estate deal,” Ms. Schweitzer noted.
It was Democrat Tim Chapman who first questioned the propriety of Mr. McKay’s real-estate deal, in the context of a heated primary election. “During the campaign, we found troubling information that warranted scrutiny. If there was wrongdoing, there needs to be accountability,” Mr. Chapman told WAMU.
In June, Mr. McKay was nominated by Fairfax Democrats for Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. He will face Republican Joe Galdo in the general election to be held on November 5th.
On Friday, Mr. Galdo tweeted: “What’s clear right now is that we need more transparency from our elected officials, whose job is to advance the interests of everyday residents – not well-connected developers and certainly not themselves.”
