Speaker-designee Todd Gilbert issued the following statement on Friday:
“The recount has reaffirmed what Election Day and canvass already told us — that Karen Greenhalgh is the Delegate-elect from the 85th district, and Republicans will retake the majority in the House of Delegates.
“Now that the majority is official, we can move forward with a timely transition as to be prepared to work on day one.”
J.D. Maddox, the GOP candidate for House of Delegates in Virginia’s 45th District, joined the Fairfax GOP’s Vinson Palathingal and Srilekha Palle for a wide-ranging, issues-focused conversation Saturday evening.
The 45th District includes the City of Alexandria, as well as portions of Fairfax County and Arlington County. Maddox has deep roots in the district.
Gwendalyn F. Cody, formerly a member of Virginia’s House of Delegates, died last week. She was 99 years old. A veteran of the Second World War, Cody will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
In the 1970’s, Cody was actively involved with the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance. After losing a bid for a seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Cody was elected to serve as a member of the House of Delegates in the 1980’s.
While the nation is focused on the January 5 Georgia runoff elections for U.S. Senate, there is a critical special election far closer to home, also scheduled for January 5, 2021.
Heather Mitchell, formerly a senior aide to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, is the Republican nominee for Delegate in Virginia’s 2nd District. She faces Democrat Candi King.
Virginia Democrats are incapable of being courteous even in the midst of a pandemic. Due to the coronavirus, the House of Delegates will reconvene this week in a tent; but the Democrat majority did not even have the decency to inform Republican delegates of important matters, such as how votes would be taken and whether voting remotely would be permitted. Consequently, Republican delegates have been learning about the Democrats’ plans through the media
