In Memoriam: Doug Jones
Douglas Freeman Jones, 68, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on November 27, 2021, in Converse, Texas, while visiting his children and grandson for Thanksgiving.
Visitation will be held at 5 pm on December 19th at Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA. Funeral services will be held at Pillar Church of Woodlawn on December 20th at 10 am with Pastor Brian Collison officiating.
Volunteers Clean Up Franconia Roadside
More than a dozen volunteers, from across the Lee/Mount Vernon area, gathered on Saturday, May 15 to remove litter alongside Franconia Road. Among them was Brenton Hammond, the GOP nominee for Virginia’s House of Delegates in District 43. “It was a beautiful day for a great event,” the candidate said.
The service project was organized by the Knights of Columbus Council #9407, based at St. Lawrence Church on Franconia Road.
BLEXIT Virginia Talks School Choice with Steven Mosley
BLEXIT Virginia interviewed Mount Vernon resident Steven Mosley this week on Facebook Live. Mosley, who ran last year for a seat on Fairfax County’s school board, discussed the many benefits of school choice for all students, and for black children in particular.
Parents should have the right to determine “where and how their children are educated,” Mosley said. “When someone says ‘school choice,’ that’s what they’re talking about.”
