Herrity: First Look at the County’s 2022 Budget
At the February 23rd Board meeting, the County Executive presented the Advertised Budget for FY2022. While this budget includes a decrease of one penny in the tax rate, it results in an overall increase of 3.4 percent for the average homeowner because of the rise in assessment values.
Political Correctness Impeding Diversity
At the July 29th Library Board of Trustees meeting, my appointee Phil Rosenthal made a statement about the need for more diverse views to be represented in the library catalog’s highlighted books. He and other trustees pointed out that there is no review process for choosing recommended reads for the library catalog and that has led to an unbalanced selection. County Board Votes to Move Forward with Admissions Tax
I was the only Board member to vote against moving forward with advertising a public hearing on an up to 4 percent Admissions Tax during Tuesday’s Board meeting. I also requested a $3M project get deferred until we learn more about the budget impacts. Our residents and businesses are struggling to make it and are being forced to make difficult decisions to balance their budgets. Now is not the time to be considering a new industry specific tax
