A Fairfax County school board member will need to plead her case in court for why she should not be removed from office after petitioners gathered the necessary number of signatures, a judge decided Friday.
Board member Elaine Tholen faces a recall effort over her votes to suspend in-person learning for the school system during the COVID-19 pandemic. The petitioners argue she was incompetent in the performance of her duties.
Fairfax County residents have successfully filed a petition to recall school board member Elaine Tholen. More than 5,000 verified signatures were submitted on Monday — only 3,600 were needed. “Our group, sister organizations and thousands and thousands who have signed our petitions agree that the kids and families of Fairfax County deserve better,” said Zia Tompkins, a member of the FCPS Accountability Coalition.
Outside last week’s meeting of the Fairfax County School Board, two rallies were held. One consisted of parents opposed to critical race theory (CRT). The other represented a very different, “woke” point of view. The “woke” rally featured a speaker named Michelle Leete, who fulminated against those who disagreed with her revolutionary worldview: “Let them die. Don’t let these uncomfortable people deter us from our bold march forward.”

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton Klein and Director of ZOA’s Center for Law and Justice Susan Tuchman, Esq. released the following statement:
The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) sent a letter to the Superintendent and School Board of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) yesterday, documenting years of antisemitism in the district.
Every year, high school and college graduating classes sit down and listen to a commencement speech. A top student, an influential figure, or a faculty member will deliver the typical tropes on conquering fears, realizing dreams, and never giving up. It might be full of clichés, but this encouragement has been the go-to oration for a reason. In recent years, these addresses have turned into soapboxes, as leftists spout political rhetoric and inform the students how the world is a terrible place.
Fairfax GOP Chairman Steve Knotts was on WMAL’s O’Connor & Company to discuss the controversies engulfing the Fairfax County School Board — and the efforts of local parent-activists to recall three board members (Abrar Omeish, Elaine Tholen and Laura Jane Cohen).
Much of the interview focused on the radical, divisive rhetoric of at-large board member Abrar Omeish.
In a recent interview with AJ+, embattled school board member Abrar Omeish “doubled down” on her anti-Israel screeds, which many have characterized as hateful and needlessly divisive, if not deeply anti-Semitic, in nature. “There is no chance I am resigning,” Omeish told AJ+, which is owned by Al Jazeera and funded by the government of Qatar.
Omeish created a firestorm of controversy by accusing Israel of “apartheid” and “colonization.”
Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Scott Brabrand shocked local parents and community members by sending out a biased and unscientific sham of a survey, stating that he plans to issue a new “Anti-Racism, Anti-Bias Curriculum Policy” and revise the “Controversial Issues Policy” that makes certain that teachers are fair and impartial when they discuss controversial issues in the classroom.
