Last week we released a statement responding to John Foust’s sexist attack against Barbara Comstock. Since then the Washington Post and Fox News have run stories about Foust’s insulting comments – but Foust refuses to admit error. We need to keep fighting back, because Foust didn’t just attack Barbara Comstock, but all women. Here is a response from Jill Cook, Dranesville District Chair and FCRC Executive Committee member:
John Foust’s appalling statement is a clear indication of how unqualified he is to hold the office of US Congressman. He is either ignorant, arrogant or plain mean-spirited.
About Delegate Comstock, he said, “I don’t think she’s even had a real job.” Really, Mr. Foust? Perhaps you’re unaware of your opponent’s background? You do know that she is a lawyer, a business owner, a legislator, a former federal employee and a working mom, don’t you? Which one of these vocations do you take issue with?
As a stay-at-home mom who, in the eyes of John Foust “doesn’t work”, I am disgusted with his comments. Perhaps he thinks that if you’re a woman and you don’t bring home a paycheck, you’re irrelevant, and that you don’t know or care about jobs, the economy, the federal debt or other topics that affect every American. Tell that to the 8 schools and pre-schools, the 3 churches, the Republican Committees in Georgia, Illinois and Virginia and the multiple other organizations I “haven’t” worked for!
I fully expect Mr. Foust to apologize to all the groups he has offended – working moms, stay-at-home moms, federal employees, business owners and lawyers (did I forget anyone?).
Share your concern. Please sign the petition for Barbara Comstock to demand an apology from John Foust and let him know we will not stand for insulting comments.
